The installation Parte de la Ceremonia creates surreal soundscapes from different Mexican forest habitats to immerse visitors in a unique, ethereal, imaginative auditory experience, transporting them to an alternate reality. It consists of a realistic 3D recreation of these ecosystems, imaginary elements synthesized from field recordings using techniques such as granular synthesis, ultrasonic sounds such as bats pitched down into the human hearing range and cultural and magical elements all from the conservation region.
Parte de la Ceremonia is related to the installation México Mágico which is connected to Kew’s research programme led by scientists Dr Tiziana Ulian and Michael Way in collaboration with the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) and NGO Pronatura Veracruz aiming to protect, conserve and enhance Mexican forests' natural capital, it focuses on preserving native tree seeds and supporting the livelihoods of local communities. Without this kind of work none of the sounds in this installation, real or imaginary, would exist.
