FLUX Social is a bi-monthly opportunity for artists to meet, discuss and debate as part of studio visits. For our February event, the avant-garde East London gallery By Other Means invited our FLUX community to reflect on the role of the gallery after the internet and the changing ideas of studio practice.
By Other Means founder and director James Nasmyth talked with artist duo downtown500 magazine (Andreas Roes and Arthur Sopin), currently in residence at BOM. Together they discussed the gallery’s changing role as public space of art production and presentation as we move towards the 2020s. At the centre of this debate was Downtown500’s concept of Meta-Modernism, the Mass-man and By Other Means’ strategies to challenge dominant exhibition practices.
