Where do light, data and canvas meet? Combining algorithmic art, with traditional art forms, brainwave data with light refractions, artists Stuart F. Batchelor and Oliver Gingrich explore intersections between traditional art forms and intelligent artistic design. The exhibition will feature brainwave projections and light refractions by Oliver Gingrich as well as video and still generative paintings by Stuart F. Batchelor, as a trajectory of past, present and future of alternate and hybrid media art practices.
Presented at the Association for Cultural Advancement in the Visual Arts (ACAVA)’s Maxilla Space in Notting Hill, the exhibition will be hosted by FLUX Events - an artist-led platform for Media Arts focusing on contemporary media art practices created right now in the UK. FLUX events will host an evening of discussions around the diverse practices presented by Batchelor and Gingrich in “Intelligent Matter”.

About Stuart Bachelor
Stuart Faromarz Batchelor is a fine artist and software engineer who combines oil painting with graphics programming, showcasing a beautiful union between traditional and programmatic art techniques.“Painting with code and coding with paint”. Formerly an interactive developer at CG film and digital installation company Framestore, Stuart’s current work focuses on making programming a physical process - escaping the dulling confines of the computer screen and rejecting its amputation of our senses - by drawing on alla prima and abstract expressionist practices.
Rebelling against the boundaries of the technology we are so readily given, Stuart Batchelor programs his own systems centered around this untapped human capability. His signature practice combines both the artist’s hand and the computer’s generative simulations; working between coding and painting in the same session, utilizing enactive, iconic and symbolic modes of understanding, uniting the painter’s observational eye and the algorist’s design logic.
