Karel Bata is a filmmaker and light artist creating works exploring ideas of how memory, and its influence on perception, can be moulded and represented.
This piece explores Presence and Absence. What is lighting this object? Where is the source? There appears to be something present, even in motion, yet nothing is visible, only this trace of a time when the piece was created. The viewer is invited to contemplate other such apparent habitations of space and memory, other notions of things seemingly “there” and with full corporeality but which are merely echoes of inaccessible past events.
