shemza.digital
shemza.digital #3, 2021 Price: NFS Aphra Shemza & Stuart Batchelor in collaboration with the public. Programming Peter Todd. The shemza.digital project is based on the work of Aphra Shemza’s grandfather, the well known British/Pakistani painter Anwar Jalal Shemza. In the last 10 years there has been a rethinking of British Art History and migrant artists like Anwar Jalal Shemza are being given the recognition that they deserve. In shemza.digital Aphra Shemza and Stuart Batchelor have used participatory art as a way to highlight Anwar Shemza’s work to the public and ask them to become actively involved in artmaking by becoming artists themselves. For shemza.digital #3 Shemza and Batchelor have created a digital painting application that is hosted online, where the public is invited to create their own digital paintings and watch them come to life in the real time animation. The artwork can be displayed on a projector or screen depending on the space available. www.shemza.digital @shemza.digital Olive Gingrich & Shama Rahman (IO)
Zeitgeist, 2021 Price: £544 BUY HERE Algorithmic Art. Aluminium C-Print. Limited Edition (1/20 + artist proof) 14.7 W x 8.4 H x 0.8 D inch Zeitgeist, developed by the artists/researchers Dr Olive Gingrich and Dr Shama Rahman (IO), uses deep learning algorithms to indicate ‘Flow’, turning the artwork into an interface of creative collaborative practices. Zeitgeist measures whether audiences are in a Flow mental state, a state of increased creative stimulation, reduced stress and increased relaxation. Zeitgeist analyses this data and represents Flow states as visual cues - a process called ‘nudging’. Lighter colours and more complex forms represent a heightened state of Flow. Visual cues provide information on Flow as measured via an EEG – an electroencephalogram which records brain activity. NeuroCreate's proprietary deep-learning algorithm compares these inputs to a brainwave signature pattern of Flow. This sculpture represents Flow mental states of the artists creatively collaborating, compared against brainwave signature patterns of FLOW identified by Dr. Rahman during her doctorate and now developed further with her startup NeuroCreate's Flow classification. www.olivergingrich.com @olive_m_gingrich www.neurocreate.co.uk @shama rahman Olive Gingrich & Shama Rahman (IO)

Maria Almena is a creative director and a multimedia artist, co-founder of the London-based creative studio, Kimatica Studio. Maria's practice research is about the physical and spiritual, virtual and real worlds, and contemporary rituals and passions. She enjoys playing with visual perceptions, intending to transport the viewer into new worlds, to dramatise the transition between states of consciousness and highlighting the importance of the journey in itself. She use the human body as key to explore these ideas, transforming, mutating and searching for answers in our own canvas.
