Metaverse Divinations, 2021 - Ongoing
Recording of a Live AR performance using 360 body mapping technology - 3 min
55” inch screen, wall mounted portrait
Metaverse Divinations is a series of augmented reality (AR) ritualistic performances that gave birth to our first performative NFTs. We use ritual design as a framework to create these performative spiritual acts that transform into new digital artworks. Through them, we explore methodologies for creating ritualistic mixed reality experiences that enhance interconnectedness and inspire introspection.
The performers interact with digital multidimensional layers of reality representing light and shadow archetypes, the collective subconscious and altered states. It draws on the constant human-existential inner battle between lights and shadows, offering a ritualistic space to relate with our subconscious mind aiming to achieve spiritual awareness and reconnection to the self, to others and to nature.
Each performative NFT has been created from the recording of a live performance using real-time AR 360 body-mapping tracking technology, using Kimatica’s self-developed open-source software and no visual effects have been added in post-production. The visual digital layers respond to the presence, colour and movement in the scene in real-time.
The aim of this artwork is to bring the audience’s attention to their inner world and subconscious mind, with the intention of creating new contemporary rituals that can help our Western Society to be more in touch with our suppressed emotions.
Kimatica’s first performative NFTs have been created with the support of The Arts Council England in 2021 and the second development has been supported by Greenwich University in 2022.
